BODS - Ballet for Older Dancers
BODS - Ballet for Older Dancers classes run every Wednesday, 10.30am - 12.15pm at Dancehouse in Carlton.
BODS classes provide a fun and informative approach to ballet technique for older dancers. Traditional barre exercises develop strength, alignment, coordination and balance, while centre work re-frames familiar ballet vocabulary in fun, challenging, yet safe ways designed specifically for older dancers.
I teach from my Cecchetti background and from studying for many years with Beth Hoge, who I first met at Mills College, and later followed to her Danspace studio in Oakland, California. I have also taken workshops over the years with Andra and Ernesta Corvino from New York. I find this work foundational for strength and artistry. If you’ve ever come away from ballet discouraged, downhearted, or even injured, this work is for you. It is completely empowering because it works for all bodies and all ages.
The class emphasises musicality, artistry and individuality, in a warm and mutually supportive environment. These are not ‘extra’ but the basis of good technique.
After barre and a short centre, we have been known to cut loose with some fun phrase material - low impact of course!
